The packed sealed containers shall show no
3.5 Waterproofness.
evidence of leakage after immersion for 15 seconds min.
3.6 Functioning. The signal assemblies shall function when
tested as specified in 4.5.8 and shall comply with the following
requirements.
3.6.1 Premature burst. The signal assembly shall not burst in
or within 100 feet of the launcher. The illuminant assembly shall
not eject within 100 feet of the launcher. Any signal in which the
illuminant assembly is ejected upon ground impact due to fuze
failure after normal flight, will not be considered a critical
defect.
3.6.2 Ambient temperature.
(70 ± 5°F).
3.6.2.1 Altitude and vertical angle. No assembly shall emit
the first trace of red light at an altitude of less than 1350 feet,
or be ejected at an angle of more than 30 degrees from the
vertical. The altitude of the signal at the end of 27 seconds of
burning time shall be not less than 900 feet. The average angle
from the vertical for all signals which function within the maximum
(max.) angle from the vertical (30 degrees) shall be not more than
15 degrees.
3.6.2.2 Burning time. The illuminant assembly in flight shall
burn not less than 27 seconds.
Cold temperature.
(minus 65 ± 5°F).
3.6.3
3.6.3.1 Altitude and vertical angle. No assembly shall emit
the first trace of red light at less than 1100 foot altitude or be
ejected at an angle of more than 70 degrees from the vertical. The
average angle for all signals which function within the max. angle
from the vertical (70 degrees) shall be not more than 25 degrees.
3.6.3.2 Burning time. The illuminant assembly in flight shall
burn not less than 27 seconds.
3.7 First article inspection. This specification makes
provisions for first article inspection. Requirements for the
submission of first article samples by the contractor shall be as
specified in the contract.
