MIL-F-81738 Flare, Aircraft, Parachute, Mk 45 Mod 0This specification covers the manufacture and preparation for delivery of the Flare, Aircraft, Parachute, MK 45 Mod 0, the MK 45 Aircraft Parachute Flare and Drogue Tray, and the methods of examination and tests upon which product acceptance shall be based. The flares or Mk 45 drogue trays are a delay type flare, designed for launching from aircraft, which produce a parachute suspended illuminating candle. The flare or Mk 45 drogue tray is classified as Class B Explosives \(Code of Federal Regulations 49 CFR 71-78\) ad IIC Explosive \(Coast Guard Rules and Regulations for Military Explosive and Hazardous Munitions CG 108\).

Function (eject contents).

Delay and burning time:

(1) Ejection delay time: Time from pulling the lanyard to ejection of

contents shall be within the tolerance specified in Table I.

(2) The candle shall burn for a minimum period of 180 seconds.

3.3.1.4. Flight functioning. The flare or Mk 45 drogue tray shall meet the follow-

ing requirements.

Shall not eject contents less than 1.5 seconds after pulling of the lan-

yard.

Function (eject, suspend, ignite candle and dump parachute).

Parachute shall not dump more than 20 seconds before candle burnout.

Delay and burning time:

contents shall be within the tolerance specified in Table II.

(2) The candle shall burn for a minimum period of 180 seconds.
